Edgar Jopson, known as Edjop

More than 15 years ago, my first book, "Edjop: The Unusual Journey of Edgar Jopson" was published in Manila. I have revised, updated, even overhauled, that work for a new biography of the late activist, "UG, An Underground Tale: The Journey of Edgar Jopson and the First Quarter Storm Generation." It has just been published by Anvil Publishing.

I thought I was done with the story when my first book on Edjop came out in two editions years ago. But I felt the need to tell a more complete story. "UG, An Underground Tale" essentially tells the same story of a young man from a rich family who saw the need to give up his life of privilege to help the poor and powerless. But the new book, I hope, captures more of the nuances of that struggle. The new book includes details the first book did not have.

For example, I found out that Edjop was aware of and was seriously disturbed by allegations that the movement was responsible for the Plaza Miranda bombing.

Also, the real names of some of the characters are now included so it is now easier to follow the story. ( In the first book, I could not even use the REAL UG names at the request of the interview subjects.) There is also an afterword by Joy Jopson Kintanar, and a foreword by Senator Jovito Salonga.

i just finished reading your book for sheila highly recommended it. i've been looking for a writing like this, a personal narrative of a filipino living and struggling with ideologies in the time of ferdinand marcos and finally making the decission to go underground.

as a filipino american, i did not live through these times of hardship, but i have been longing to understand the motivations of people to join in the struggle.

i appreciate the insight on the fragmented left and i am slowly realizing now that politics in the philippines is very personal. but will i ever truly and fully understand? what is my place, my role, as a filipino american in philippine politics and society?

Mabuhay ka Ben!
I am so glad to know we both belong to BLOGGER...and this brings me to ask you...HOW DOES ONE ESTABLISH A "LINK" in BLOGGER?
I have a copy of the book by Elizabeth Castro who, to my mind, took pains in detaililng instructions for BLOGGER...and the only in the librarY.
My problem Ben is following the instructions. Can you help me make the moves to establish links in my blog?
I can copy the page and fax it to you to study and later let us talk over the phone as you DIRECT ME step by step. You decide.

Also when can my interview with you about my uncle Nick be heard in the podcast?
I enjoy KWENTO KWENTO. Good for all of us.

Tony Joaquin
